Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the OCR?

For clear printed text, accuracy is usually above 95%. Sharp, well lit, straight images give the best results. Handwriting is harder and may need correcting.

Which languages are supported?

More than 25 languages, including English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German and Russian.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to text?

Yes. Drop the PDF and each page is read in turn. The text of all pages appears in one box.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Recognition runs inside your browser. The first run downloads the language data once, after which it is cached.

Why is the first run slower?

The OCR engine and language file (a few MB) download on first use. Later runs start almost instantly.
