Frequently asked questions

How much can a PDF be compressed?

Scanned PDFs and PDFs full of photos usually shrink by 50 to 90 percent. Text-only PDFs are already small, so the saving is smaller.

How do I compress a PDF to under 200 KB or 100 KB?

Pick Strong or Extreme, or type 200 (or 100) in Target size. The tool lowers the quality step by step until the file fits.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Compression runs inside your browser, so your PDF never leaves your device.

Will the text stay selectable?

Light keeps text selectable. Recommended, Strong and Extreme turn pages into optimised images for the biggest saving, so text can no longer be selected or searched.

Why did my file not get smaller?

Some PDFs are already well optimised. If a smaller version is not possible we tell you and keep your original.

Can I combine PDFs before compressing?

Yes. Use Merge PDF first, then compress the merged file here.
